Civil War history comes to life on Battle of Nashville bus tour

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Preservation Trust (TPT) is hosting a special one-time-only bus tour of sites associated with the Battle of Nashville on July 9th, 2016 as part of its Historic Tennessee Tours series. Led by historian and documentary filmmaker David Currey, the tour will drive the forward lines of the battle and visit sites including Fort Negley, Redoubt #1, Grandbury's Lunette, and Peach Orchard Hill.

Currey is a principal at Encore Interpretive Design and has produced several documentaries that relate Tennessee's Civil War experience. He is also the former board president of the Tennessee Preservation Trust, the only statewide partner of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and non-profit dedicated to saving Tennessee's historic places.

The Battle of Nashville Bus Tour is one of many special events in the Tennessee Preservation Trust's Historic Tennessee Tours series, which saw its kickoff event just last month with a tour of downtown Nashville saloon history. The series aims to share unique perspectives of Tennessee's history with special tour events all across the state.

The three-hour tour by bus will engage guests on a journey through the significant events of the battle and provide a deeper understanding of the city that was once fraught with the turmoil of the Civil War. As the group visits each site, Currey will also share how this middle Tennessee landscape has been transformed by the war's events.

The tour begins at 9am from the Fort Negley Visitor Center and returns to the same location at 12pm. Tickets are $65 and include expert commentary, luxury mini-coach transportation, a copy of the Historic Tennessee coffee table book, and a free one-year membership to the TPT.

Space is limited for this one-off experience and advanced registration is required. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the TPT's website.
