Old City’s Armada Bar goes to the dogs

‘Yappy Hour’, ‘Cats, Canines and Cabernet’ is this summer’s event to benefit Young-Williams Animal Center. Every Thursday during the month of August, Armada Bar in the Old City will host a “Yappy Hour” with $1 of every specialized drink purchased donated to the shelter. Armada incorporates local ingredients into its handcrafted cocktails.

Armada Bar is a locally owned establishment which has partnered with Young-Williams Animal Center for the second summer in a row to raise money for the shelter in August.

“Caring for the pets in our city is no easy task,” said Zachary Calfee, owner of Armada Bar. “We wanted to give back to an organization that does such an exceptional job in our community, and we’re doing just that by partnering with Young-Williams Animal Center in August.”

On Thursday, August 20, from 5-8:00 p.m. Armada will host WATE-TV Channel 6’s Laura Halm as a celebrity bartender. All tips she makes that night will be donated to the center. Chris Sawyer, a local musician, will provide live music.

“It wouldn’t be possible to fulfill our mission and care for the 12,000 animals that come through our doors every year without community support, like this from Armada Bar,” Ashin said. “We hope all our supporters will visit Armada Bar throughout the month, but especially on Aug. 20. We can’t wait to see Laura behind the bar!”

The Armada Bar is located at 116 S. Central Street.
