KODAK, TN – Get your appetites ready for the 17th Annual Picnic in Pittman for the Park set for Friday, May 8, at 6:00 p.m. Hosted by Friends of the Smokies, the 3P BBQ raises money in support of education, historic preservation, wildlife management programs and more in Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP). The event, co-hosted by Phillip & Vicky Fulmer and Jim Ogle, is an evening of fun and festivities with current University of Tennessee football and basketball coaches and a spirited live auction led by Steve Caldwell and Dan Brooks, coaches of the 1998 National Champion Tennessee Volunteers. A barbecue buffet will be provided by Holston’s Kitchen. Top-shelf margaritas will also be served.

“It’s a pleasure to have such great people from all over East Tennessee come out to help Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This event has a proud history of supporting the Smokies with funds for trail reconstruction, hemlock treatment, and construction of the Greenbrier Picnic Pavilion,” said Jim Ogle, Friends of the Smokies board member and co-host of the 3P BBQ.

Over its 16-year history, the BBQ event has generated more than $1 million from donations, ticket sales, live and silent auctions, and event sponsorships to benefit GSMNP. Tickets are $125 and must be purchased in advance. For more information, visit www.friendsofthesmokies.org or contact Lauren Gass at 865-932-4794.

Friends of the Smokies has raised over $47 million over a period of 20 years to help maintain Great Smoky Mountains National Park as a crown jewel of the national park system, including the establishment of the Trails Forever endowment to improve Smoky Mountain hiking trails in perpetuity.
