KNOXVILLE — The Great Smoky Mountain Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) today announced its National Philanthropy Day Award Winners for 2014. They will be honored at a luncheon at Knoxville’s Cherokee Country Club on Wednesday, November 12, sponsored by United Way of Greater Knoxville.
Winners include 13-year-old Andrew Bingham of Knoxville, who was nominated by Knoxville’s Cerebral Palsy Center for collecting and providing 72 Easter baskets with both fun and useful items for the Center’s clients. Although this is the first time his work has been recognized with AFP’s Youth in Philanthropy Award, Andrew has been hard at work for the last several years planning and carrying out similar projects for a variety of area nonprofits.
Additional winners are: Dugan McLaughlin, Volunteer Fundraiser, nominated by Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley; Trinity Health Foundation, Outstanding Foundation, nominated by Holston Conference Foundation; Walgreens, Corporate Philanthropist, nominated by the Eastern Tennessee Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association; Dr. Edwin Robertson (posthumously), Outstanding Philanthropist, nominated by Lincoln Memorial University; and Martha Scheidler, Nonprofit Professional, nominated by Freddi Birdwell.
The National Philanthropy Day event also features a morning workshop, “Influencing Without Authority,” led by international management consultant Peter A. Land and sponsored by the East Tennessee Foundation, and an afternoon workshop, “Lessons in Leadership,” presented by former Knoxville Police Chief Sterling P. Owen, IV.
Luncheon tables and individual tickets are available through AFP. Corporate Tables are $500, Community (nonprofit) Tables are $350, individual seats are $35 per person, and both workshops are only $25 per person. Additional information and reservations are available at http://goo.gl/pra3vH.
