KNOXVILLE — The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) is excited to announce its new campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, “Drive out Breast Cancer.”
The HJGT is a junior golf tour that gives junior golfers from the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play competitive golf throughout the country. Currently operating in 15 states, more than 8000 juniors participated in their events last year. HJGT is the first junior golf tour to get involved with Breast Cancer Awareness. The HJGT is working with Rally for the Cure® to help raise breast cancer awareness in support of Susan G. Komen™. For the entire month of October, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s staff and interns will volunteer their hours to hand make breast cancer awareness ribbons. The HJGT is one of the largest intern based organizations in the country. On average they have 40 students, three times a year intern that come from all around the country.
HJGT hopes to raise over $1,000 for Susan G. Komen™. In addition to the $1,000, if a player gets a birdie on a hole with pink flag, they will donate an extra dollar.
HJGT Executive Director Mario Conte states, "The Hurricane Tours is excited to partake in such a special cause that is near and dear to all of our hearts. I have personally been impacted by this disease as my mother is a breast cancer survivor, so I am passionate about donating to this cause and helping to bring more awareness about breast cancer. Come join us in October at HJGT events and show your pride and wear pink on Saturday and Sunday. All the proceeds from our ribbon sales, birdies on pink flag holes, Hurricane Tour Shop pink sales will benefit Susan G. Komen™.”
Holly Gill, Associate Marketing Director for Rally for the Cure says, “We are excited the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour is helping to spread awareness about breast cancer in October. It’s great to see organizations like HJGT getting involved with Breast Cancer Awareness month and encouraging their members to take action. Rally and Komen are very appreciative of the efforts and hard work the Hurricane Junior Tour and their intern staff are putting into this effort. We are so happy that their juniors will have the chance to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer.”
Upcoming events in the month of October and Susan G. Komen™ local offices include the Bear Trace Jr. Classic in Crossville, TN October 18-19.
