Work by Kate McCullough (L) and Jo Marie Brotherton (R)

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Knoxville Watercolor Society is presenting a new exhibition at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from September 6-28, 2013. The exhibition will feature watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, pencil, ink painting, drawing, and more from the current society membership.

The Emporium Center is located at 100 S. Gay Street.

The Knoxville Watercolor Society was founded in 1963 when Professor Kermit Ewing, head of The University of Tennessee Art Department, invited a group of watercolorists to participate at the University's McClung Museum. Education is one of the primary purposes of the Society, as well as the promotion of water media as a significant art form. Members are juried in once a year in November, and currently there are more than fifty members. Any artist 21 years of age or older in the Knoxville area is eligible. Exhibitions are held three or more times a year and members are required to participate. Many members have received honors from various local and national art organizations, including Dogwood Arts and the Tennessee Watercolor Society.
