Big BBQ Bash cook-off helps Helen Ross McNabb Center
MARYVILLE, TN -- The 7th annual Big BBQ Bash is set for June 21-22 in the Greenbelt parking lot in downtown Maryville, TN. The event is an amateur barbecue cook-off and fundraiser for the Helen Ross McNabb Center, created by the Leadership Blount Class of 2007.
Amateur BBQ teams are invited to “smoke up or shut up” by cooking their best plates of barbecue. This year brisket will be introduced as a category for the first time. Categories will include pulled pork, ribs, brisket, chicken and “anything butt.” Prize money totaling $7,000 will be awarded including a trophy and, of course, bragging rights for the top three teams in each category. The current grand champion team is the Firehouse Smokers from Seymour, TN.
Admission is free to the public on Saturday, June 22. Competing BBQ teams may charge a fee per plate to the public on Saturday; giving attendees the chance to taste some of the best barbecue in the south. Area favorite, Jason Ellis and other local bands will take the stage from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for live musical performances. A variety of vendors will be set-up to feed and entertain guests of all ages.
