Tennessee Arts Commission awards Staci Swedeen individual artist fellowship

KNOXVILLE -- Knoxville playwright Staci Swedeen has been awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Tennessee Arts Commission for 2014. The Individual Artist Fellowship in Theatre/Playwriting is a distinct honor for a Tennessee Artist. Just 12 fellowships, in eight art disciplines, were awarded for 2014 fiscal year. Through a competitive process, only a few of Tennessee's most talented and creative individuals have been selected to receive this prestigious fellowship. "So much of creative writing is bushwhacking - which makes it very nice to get an occasional sign saying you might be on the right path," laughs Swedeen.

Swedeen has received a number of awards in her career. A recipient of an Arts and Letters Award in Drama and a New York State Council on the Arts Grant for New Plays, she is also a Dramatist Guild Fellow alum and core Lark Theatre member. Her play “The Goldman Project” directed by Joe Brancato played Off Broadway. She recently presented her one woman show “Pardon Me For Living” – a biting comedy involving a rabid raccoon - at the renowned Piccolo Spoleto festival in Charleston.

In 2011 Swedeen teamed up with actor and director Jayne Morgan to co-found Flying Anvil Theatre. Their mission is to present provocative theatre of the highest professional quality by staging plays that entertain, inspire, and engage the audience.
