Historic Ramsey House hosting free presentation by the Knoxville Civil War Roundtable

KNOXVILLE – Dennis Urban, Vice President of the Knoxville Civil War Roundtable, will present at the historic Ramsey House on January 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.

The topic will be The role of Knoxville in the Civil War: What civilian life was like in a city of divided loyalties from 1861 to 1865, including the role of the Ramsey Family during that time.

Urban is retired from the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education as an Emergency Management Technical Expert and has been a Kingston, TN resident for the past 9 years. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park. Urban spent 35 years in the active fire service with my last service as a chief officer and fire chief in Montgomery County, MD. His interest in the Civil War extends from his early childhood in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC where he grew up.

"I have been collecting Civil War artifacts and conducting independent research for many years," said Urban. "Since coming to the Knoxville area with no knowledge of the history of East TN, I have been fascinated with the unique history of the region; its divided loyalties before, during, and after the war; and its many colorful characters."
