Townsend offering basket-making classes at visitors center
TOWNSEND, TN -- While basketry is a craft that dates back to the beginning of man-kind, today, it is an art that not many know how to do. This February and April, Karen Kenst will share this time-honored skill in a series of basket-making classes at the Visitors Center in Townsend.
Kenst has more than 30 years of basket-making experience, and she is a member of the Foothills Craft Guild, the Tennessee Basketmakers Association, the Blount County Arts and Crafts Guild, and the North Carolina Basketmakers Association.
Classes are offered at all skill levels from beginner to advanced, and students will make a variety of baskets depending on their skill level.
Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Visitors Center in Townsend, and pre-registration is required. For more information about the class and to register, please contact Kenst at (865) 983-3352.
