KNOXVILLE -- The 2013 Spirit of Nations Powwow and Heritage Festival is set for August 10 at Chilhowee Park. The event will commemorate the tragedy and triumph of the Cherokee. The Cherokee were forced from their traditional homelands in the East to a new land in what is now the state of Oklahoma. In recognition of the historic 175th anniversary of the Trail of Tears, there will be Powwow dancing, traditional Cherokee dances, storytelling, and lectures.

Visitors can also enjoy native food, arts and crafts, blowgun competition, a children's area, silent auction, and more. The festival will be held at Chilhowee Park from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. The cost is $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.
