Artists sought for National Juried Exhibition 2013

KNOXVILLE -- The Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville is accepting entries for its National Juried Exhibition of 2013. The National Juried Exhibition was developed to provide a forum for artists to compete on a national scale and display their work.

Approximately 40-50 fine art works encompassing all styles and genres from both emerging and established artists will comprise the exhibition in the main gallery of the beautifully-restored Emporium Center at 100 S. Gay Street from February 1-22, 2013. The Emporium is free and open to the public Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

The deadline for entries to be postmarked is Saturday, December 8, 2012.

The call for entries is open to all artists. Entries must be original works completed within the last two years in the following categories: 2-D (painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, photography) and 3-D (sculpture of all media). The nonrefundable entry fee is $40 for up to three works ($25 for Arts & Culture Alliance members and students). Up to three additional entries may be submitted for $7/each ($5 for members/students). Prizes include at least $1,000 in cash awards.

The juror, Patrick DeGuira (born 1972), lives and works in Nashville, TN. He has exhibited his work at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Brooks Museum of Art, Hunter Museum of Art, Cheekwood Museum of Art, as well as numerous commercial, non-profit, University galleries, and is represented by Zeitgeist Gallery. In addition to his exhibition career, he has worked as a Museum Exhibit Designer, Educator, and Curator. In 2010, he curated the exhibition Aftermath, which included the work of Leigh Ledare, Harmony Korine, Kurt Wagner, Brent Stewart, and Chris Scarborough, among others. He has co-curated video exhibitions through Fugitive Projects, inviting such artists as Norberto Rodriguez, Luis Gispert, and Hernan Bas to participate. He has juried exhibitions at UT-Chattanooga and at Watkins College of Art, Design & Film. He just finished working on the Carrie Mae Weems exhibition (at the Frist in Nashville) and the exhibition the Rise and Fall of Apartheid: Photography and the Bureaucracy of Everyday Life at the International Center of Photography. His work has been reviewed and featured in numerous publications, including The Oxford American, New American Paintings, Art Papers, Number, and Art Daily. He is the recipient of a Tennessee Independent Artist Fellowship Grant, and multiple Tennessee Professional Development Support.

The Arts & Culture Alliance's Juried Exhibition of 2011 featured the work of 38 artists in Tennessee, California, North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.
