Gatlinburg's 2012 Harvest Festival Decoration Contest winners announced

GATLINBURG -- The results are in for the annual Harvest Festival Decoration Contest in Gatlinburg. Members of the Gatlinburg Garden Club judged the displays.

In the non-professional decorating category, Ole Smoky Moonshine Holler won first place for large display, attraction.

The decoration contest is a popular event in the Smoky Mountains with many Gatlinburg business participating by placing elaborate fall displays consisting of pumpkins, hay bales, fall flowers, corn stalks, scarecrows, and more.

Fall displays in Gatlinburg blend in with the beautiful fall foliage in the Smoky Mountains and in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies won first place for large display, attraction in the professional decorating category.

In the retail category, first place for professional large display went to The Village, followed closely by Marketplace Mall. In the non-professional decorating category, Ole Smoky Moonshine Holler won first place for large display, attraction, with Ripley's Haunted Adventure coming in second.

Log Cabin Pancake House took first place for non-professional, small display, restaurant division.

The decoration contest is very popular with many Gatlinburg businesses participating. "Some displays are very elaborate, while others are quietly beautiful," said Jean Chase of the Gatlinburg Garden Club. "The Garden Club loves helping with the judging of the displays. We love it! It gets us all in the spirit of the autumn season!"
