Disturbing Statistics for Christian Dating websites
By Jeaneane Payne
Christian dating websites have taken the Internet by a storm. Numerous new sites have come on board within the past two years, all claiming that "Christian dating sites are the best, most comprehensive and compatible venues for singles with Christian values."
ChristianMingle.com alone claims a membership of over 7 million Christian singles seeking members of the opposite sex for romantic relationships and possible marriage.
These websites provide an opportunity to view the profiles of other Christian singles including information about their interests, hobbies, religion, and the type of partner they desire. Some even arrange speed dating events at local churches, town halls and cafes. They all claim that online dating provides a much safer means of meeting other singles, even safer than meeting at a local church.
Let's consider the population of the United States which is at 314,701,882 as of November 3, 2012. Now let's think about people who would not or should not qualify as a Christian single wanting to meet someone of the opposite sex:
• 25% of the U.S. population is under the age of 20; that leaves us with 236,026,411 people over the age of 21
• 55,228,290 adults in the U.S. do not have a computer; leaving us with 180,798,121 eligible adults
• There are 115,000,000 married people in the U.S.; leaving us with 65,798,121 eligible singles
• There are 1,300,000 U.S. residents in the military with 6.5% of those being single; leaving us with 64,582,621 eligible singles
• 12.8% (40,281,840) of the U.S. population are over the age of 65 with less than 8% being members of a Christian dating site; leaving us with 27,523,328 eligible singles
• There are currently 2,000,000 U.S. citizens in prisons; leaving us with 25,523,328 eligible singles
• There are 4,000,000 gays and lesbians in the U.S.; leaving us with 21,523,328 eligible for meeting Christian singles of the opposite sex on a dating site
• 11,000,000 illegal immigrants; leaving us with 10,523,328 eligible singles
• 2,014,092 people in the U.S. live in nursing homes; leaving us with 8,509,236 eligible singles
• 15.4% of adults in the U.S. living in poverty; assuming that 7.2% of single adults live in poverty; that leaves us with 7,896,571 eligible singles
Approximately 79.5% of adults in the U.S. claim to be Christian which would give us 6,277,773 million eligible singles for Christian online dating sites. I dare say that not all of these people have joined all of the Top 10 Christian singles dating sites. Therefore, the vast majority of members of these Christian dating sites are either not single or non-Christian.
Now I am not a statistician, and some of the figures above intermingle, but they give us a general idea of how many eligible singles there are in the U.S. to be a member of such a dating site.
Given the large number of eligible singles who are not a member of any dating site, that tremendously lowers the number of actual singles who are members of dating sites.
If ChristianMingle.com has a membership of over 7 million people, how many millions of its members are married people posing as singles, how many are non-Christian, how many are real people, how many are using aliases, and how many are running ponzi schemes thinking that if they rip of a Christian they won't go to jail?
Your chances of meeting a real Christian single of the opposite sex on a so-called Christian dating site is like playing a game of Russian roulette.
