"Columns" by Kenneth Thompson being gifted to the City of Knoxville on Friday, December 7

columnsKNOXVILLE -- Kenneth Thompson's "Columns" structure was voted Best in Show of the 2011-2012 Art in Public Places Knoxville sculpture exhibit. On Friday, December 7 the Dogwood Arts and its Public Art Collectors Circle are gifting Columns to the City of Knoxville Public Art Collection. The unveiling will take place at Krutch Park in downtown Knoxville at 5:30 p.m.

Twenty-six large-scale sculptures grace our city and enrich the quality of life for our community, increasing public access to art and promoting understanding and awareness of the arts. Public art enlivens and beautifies the city landscape, contributing to civic pride. Art In Public Places also helps distinguish Knoxville as an art destination city as residents and visitors enjoy the sculpture exhibition throughout the year.

Dogwood Arts' Public Art Collectors Circle consists of: Adam Brown, Kay Clayton, Lane Hays, and Stuart Worden.

Kenneth Thompson holds a Master of Liberal Studies in Sculpture from the University of Toledo and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Siena Heights College in Adrian, MI. Mr. Thompson has been making sculpture for over thirty years at his studio in Blissfield, Michigan. He also operates Flatlanders Sculpture Supply and Art Galleries, as well as Midwest Sculpture Initiative.
