Tuesday's Children Get Help from UT Public Relations Students

KNOXVILLE -- A community-wide fundraiser was held on Sunday, September 11, 2011 by UT public relations students which will benefit Tuesday's Children. Tuesday's Children is an organization established to help every individual impacted by the 9/11 terrorist attacks and others who have since been affected by global terrorism.

The fundraising event was held at Barnes & Noble. In conjunction with the PR 370 Case Study class from UT, they hosted a book fair which netted approximately $500 and offered awareness about Tuesday's Children.

During the event, students set up face painting, coloring and reading stations for children. Special guests included Smokey (the dog), Smokey (UT mascot) and Chilly (Knoxville Ice Bears mascot).

UT Air Force and Army ROTC cadets, were on hand to honor all those killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Mark J. Farley, Captain, US Air Force and UT Asst. Prof. of Aerospace Studies, gave a commemorative speech, followed by a moment of silence.

This event is one of many activities taking place throughout the fall semester in which the public relations students enrolled in Dr. Lisa Fall's PR Case Study class, in collaboration with the UT PRSSA Sammie Lynn Puett Chapter and Latitude 35 Restaurant, will be raising funds to benefit Tuesday's Children.

Students are encouraging the community to visit Barnesandnoble.com between September 11 – September 17 and make purchases using a special tracking code. Ten percent of all purchases made with this code will benefit the students' Tuesday's Children fundraiser: #10551984.

For more information about Tuesday's Children and to make a donation, go to: www.tuesdayschildren.org. Indicate "University of Tennessee fundraiser" in the comment box when making an online contribution.
