Dogwood Arts 2011 House and Garden Show to Feature New Technologies and How-to Presentations

Dogwood Arts' 2011 House and Garden Show, the largest house and garden show in Tennessee, features new technologies and how-to presentations that are sure to educate and inspire every attendee. This year's how, selected as one of the Southeast Tourism Society's Top 20 events for 2011, will take place Friday, February 11 and Saturday, February 12 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, February 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Knoxville Convention Center.

taniya nayakThe 2011 How-To stage schedule will feature HGTV celebrity designer Taniya Nayak. Nayak attended Boston Architectural College for her master's in interior design and designed and hosted ABC Family's Knock First before moving on to HGTV's Freestyle and Designed to Sell. She currently hosts HGTV's Destination Design and is president and founder of design firm Design Digs, where she creates her signature designs for both commercial and residential spaces. Her company also helps homeowners make top dollar with home-staging and mild renovations of their for-sale homes.

10:30 a.m. - Kathy Burke-Mihalczo, Erin's Meadow Herb Farm presents "The Pleasure of Herbs"
11:30 a.m. - Peg Beute, Ijams Nature Center presents "Organic Gardening: Winter Gardening in East Tennessee"
12:30 p.m. - Taniya Nayak, HGTV's Designed to Sell presents "Taniya's Tips on Adding Value to your Home Without Breaking the Bank!"
2 p.m. - Bob Balzar, TVA, VP Energy Efficiency leads panel discussion on "EnergyRight Solutions for the Home"
3 p.m. - Dr. Susan Hamilton, UT Gardens presents "Designing a Pet Friendly Garden"
4 p.m. - Chuck Ward, Chuck Ward Real Estate Investments presents "Fix It or Flip It with Chuck Ward"
5 p.m. - Dawn Steimer-Robinson, Master Custom Home Remodeling presents "How to Transform your Kitchen on Any Budget"


Sunday, February 13:
11:30 a.m. - Mathew McMillan, Knoxville Botanical Gardens presents "Pruning Fundamentals 101"
12:30 p.m. - Taniya Nayak, HGTV's Designed to Sell presents "Taniya's Tips on Adding Value to your Home Without Breaking the Bank!"
2 p.m. - Patrick Hughes, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Jenny Banner, Chief Executive Officer of Schaad Companies, LLC present "ZEBRAlliance: cutting edge energy efficiency in new home construction."
3:30 p.m. - Lisa Foster, Lisa Foster Floral Designs presents "Designing Fresh Flowers on a Budget"
4:30 p.m. - People's Choice Garden Award Presentation

Several new features will be appearing at this year's show, including a Green Living Pavilion, the first annual fundraising raffle, a PetScape and a Cooking School!

The Green Living Pavilion, sponsored by TVA EnergyRight Solutions, highlights energy efficiency and conservation. Each booth will feature green-oriented products and green living vendors will educate attendees on new energy-efficient technologies, products, services and resources that focus on a greener, cleaner home and garden.

PetScape, sponsored by Invisible Fence, is a beautiful demo landscape of a pet friendly garden. It highlights problems such as pet digging and poisonous plants and offers easy solutions for garden enthusiasts.

The Cooking School is co-sponsored by Avanti Savoia and Standard Kitchen and Bath and will be giving cooking demonstrations throughout the day and all weekend long by Chef Joseph Lowery, Chef-Consultant to Avanti Savoia.

The fundraising raffle gives visitors the opportunity to win products and services provided by the vendors. Attendees can win a two year lease on a smart car, a custom upholstered chair and ottoman from Design Den and a gourmet food basket from Avanti Savoia.

Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (over 65), and $5 for youth (6-12 years old). Children under 5 get in free. All proceeds benefit Dogwood Arts. Receive $2 discount by purchasing your ticket at any ORNL Federal Credit Union.

Dogwood Arts is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support arts education, promote the visual and performing arts, and to preserve and enhance the natural beauty of our region. The Dogwood Arts House & Garden Show is a major fundraising event that supports this mission. In April, the Festival will showcase the talented performing and visual artists, our fine art institutions, and the natural beauty of our region. ORNL Federal Credit Union is the presenting sponsor of the Festival.
