Crohn's & Colitis Foundation to Hold Educational Program

The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America invites patients, families and caregivers to Understanding Inflammatory Bowel Disease: What Every Patient Needs to Know. This educational program is intended for patients, families and caregivers living with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Consisting of a live and interactive presentation by Raj Narayani, MD of Gastrointestinal Associates, PC, as well as a question-and-answer session, the program will be held at UT Conference Center on January 27, 2011 at 6pm. Register today at www.ccfa.org/chapters/tennessee.

Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic digestive disorders of the intestines. These illnesses are collectively known as inflammatory bowel diseases, or IBD, because many of their symptoms and complications are similar. It is estimated that some 1.4 million Americans suffer from IBD, with approximately 30,000 new cases diagnosed each year.

Topics of discussion will include:

• Overview of inflammatory bowel diseases
• Recognition of symptoms and importance of diagnosis
• Review of current therapies and emerging research
• Management of disease- and emotional wellness and resources

This educational program is being provided by an educational grant from Centocor Ortho-Biotech and Shire with no-cost to attendees.
