The excitement, emotion, and energy of Broadway returns to the Tennessee Theatre presented by Greater Knoxville Honda Dealers with a 2021-2022 lineup poised to entertain and delight. With six titles and a total of 34 performances, the complete lineup of the upcoming season of Broadway at the Tennessee Theatre is presented by Greater Knoxville Honda Dealers and includes:

• Come From Away – Dec. 21-26, 2021 (7 performances)
• Mean Girls – Feb. 1-6, 2022 (7 performances)
• RENT 25th Anniversary Tour – The Farewell Season of Love – Feb. 25-27, 2022 (5 performances)
• Summer: The Donna Summer Musical – April 8-10, 2022 (5 performances)
• Hairspray – June 3-5, 2022 (5 performances)
• Anastasia – July 15-17, 2022 (5 performances)

In addition, the Tennessee Theatre has released a sneak peek of the 2022-2023 season, revealing that the lineup will include Hamilton. The best way to guarantee tickets to Hamilton is to purchase a season package for the 2021-2022 season. Subscribers will then have the opportunity to renew for the 2022-2023 season and secure their seats for Hamilton before tickets become available to the general public.

Hamilton is the story of America then, told by America now. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, Hamilton has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre – a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education.

“Broadway at the Tennessee presented by Greater Knoxville Honda Dealers is a cornerstone of the rich arts, culture, and entertainment experiences Knoxville has to offer,” Tennessee Theatre Executive Director Becky Hancock said. “The announcement of this new season also helps signify the return of live entertainment, as the local community and visitors come together to enjoy storytelling, music and dance from the stage of Knoxville’s Grand Entertainment Palace. Whether you’re a subscriber or you’ve never seen a show at the Tennessee Theatre, we can’t wait to see you; this promises to be a special season as we gather together to experience the laughter, tears, and wonder of Broadway at the Tennessee.”

Existing subscribers of the Broadway the Tennessee presented by Greater Knoxville Honda Dealers series will have an exclusive renewal period June 16-July 16, providing the opportunity to renew and secure their season tickets before new subscriptions and single-show tickets go on sale. After July 16, any unrenewed subscriptions will be released.

Starting Aug. 2, subscription packages go on sale to the public. All subscribers can enjoy a new package for Sunday evening featuring best available seats. Subscriber benefits include first notification of season lineups; opportunity to purchase tickets to individual shows before the general public; securing reduced ticket fees and the best available prices of the season; and the ability to renew the subscription for the 2022-2023 season, thus securing seats for Hamilton.

“We’re anticipating a strong response from both new and renewing subscribers, so we encourage Broadway fans to act fast,” Hancock said. “Not only will they enjoy this season’s terrific lineup, but they’ll have the option next year to renew for the 2022-2023 season, which will include the highly anticipated showing of Hamilton. We want to make sure that the public understands, however, that tickets for Hamilton are not for sale currently. Those will be available once the 2022-2023 season is announced, which we anticipate will be around summer of 2022, and on sale exclusively through the Tennessee Theatre’s official partner Ticketmaster.com.”

Renew a current subscription now through July 16 or purchase a new subscription starting Aug. 2. Subscriptions also may be renewed or purchased by calling the Tennessee Theatre box office at 865-684-1200, extension 2, or visiting the Clinch Avenue box office in person. The box office is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Tickets for individual shows will go on sale starting Sept. 13.

The 2021-2022 season of Broadway at the Tennessee presented by Greater Knoxville Honda Dealers features a diverse lineup of stories set to come to life on the stage of the Historic Tennessee Theatre.

Come From Away includes seven performances from Dec. 21-26, 2021. This New York Times critics’ pick takes the audience into the heart of the remarkable true story of 7,000 airline passengers stranded in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.

Mean Girls includes seven performances from Feb. 1-6, 2022. Direct from Broadway, this hilarious hit musical combines the brilliance of book writer Tina Fey (30 Rock), composer Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and director Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon). The story of a naïve newbie who falls prey to a trio of lionized frenemies, Mean Girls “delivers with immense energy a wicked sense of humor and joyful inside-jokery.” Whether a fan of the cult film favorite or new to the story, audiences will love and laugh along with Mean Girls. USA Today says, “We’ll let you in on a little secret, because we’re such good friends: Get your tickets now!”

RENT 25th Anniversary Tour – The Farewell Season of Love includes five performances from Feb. 25-27, 2022. For a quarter of a century, RENT has inspired audiences to choose love over fear and to live without regret. This Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning phenomenon has become more than a musical – it’s a cultural touchstone and a source of joy and strength for millions. RENT’s 25th Anniversary “Farewell Season of Love” is your final chance to experience this celebrated touring production.

Summer: The Donna Summer Musical includes five performances from April 8-10, 2022. This is the story of a girl from Boston with a voice from heaven, who shot through the stars from gospel choir to dance floor diva. But what the world didn’t know was how Donna Summer risked it all to break through barriers, becoming the icon of an era and the inspiration for every music diva who followed. With a score featuring more than 20 of Summer’s classic hits, including “Love to Love You Baby,” “Bad Girls” and “Hot Stuff,” this electric experience is a moving tribute to the voice of a generation.

Hairspray includes five performances from June 3-5, 2022. Hairspray, Broadway’s Tony Award-winning musical comedy phenomenon that inspired the blockbuster film and live television event, is back on tour. Join 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad in 1960’s Baltimore as she sets out to dance her way onto TV’s most popular show. Can a girl with big dreams (and even bigger hair) change the world?

Anastasia includes five performances from July 15-17, 2022. Inspired by the beloved films, Anastasia transports us from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love and family.
