Newell Brands donates thousands of art supplies for Art Kits for Kids program
Thanks to this generous donation, Dogwood Arts to distribute
10,000 art kits to students across East TN

KNOXVILLE – Dogwood Arts has received a charitable contribution of art and educational supplies from Newell Brands in support of the Art Kits for Kids program –– a pandemic response initiative started by the nonprofit in April 2020 that is now part of the organization’s ongoing efforts. The company’s donation includes thousands of markers, pens, pencils, and crayons from its well-known Writing brands - Sharpie®, Paper Mate®, and Mr. Sketch®. Newell Brands has strong ties to East TN with a manufacturing and distribution hub in Maryville.
"Newell Brand products, particularly their markers and crayons – are some of the most loved, popular brands for art supplies in the country," says Executive Director, Sherry Jenkins. "We are so grateful for the opportunity this donation provides. These supplies will make a positive impact on the lives of art educators and students navigating the ongoing challenges of COVID-19.”
The gift will help expand the Art Kits for Kids program exponentially. With a supplemental donation of paper products and stickers from Neenah Paper and additional financial support from ORNL Federal Credit Union, Pilot Company, First Horizon, East Tennessee Foundation, Food City, & the Tennessee Arts Commission, the dream has become a reality. Dogwood Arts is set to distribute 10,000 Art Kits to middle and high school students enrolled in art classes in Knox, Blount, and Anderson County in the coming weeks.
About the Arts Kits for Kids Program: Time spent creating art has a tremendous positive impact on development and mental health, but many youth in our community do not have the resources necessary to create art at home. Our Art Kits help change that by providing a variety of free, age-appropriate supplies to under-resourced youth in our area. In the first year of the program, Dogwood Arts compiled and distributed 3,700 Art Kits through other local nonprofit organizations that aid youth living in East Tennessee. Now in year two, we intend to continue to grow the program and extend the impact to even more children.
