Playwright who wrote Sergeant York: The Play, tries her hand at Biblical drama

Lisa Soland, author of Sergeant York: The Play, is trying her hand at Biblical drama. On April 12 and 13th, In the Upper Room theatricalizes the events surrounding the Passover meal that Jesus shared with his 12 disciples the night before their Lord was crucified.

In this one-act drama, Jesus shares memorable lessons that include the washing of his follower’s feet, and the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares. The play concludes with an original song from Psalm 118, which is thought to be the Psalm the men sang the night before leaving for Gethsemane to pray.

In its third production, In The Upper Room takes place in The Hub at West Park Baptist Church, 8833 Middlebrook Pike, Knoxville. The play will open on April 12 and run for three performances. Lisa Soland directs, Austin Percival is the assistant director, Stefan Holt designed the lights, and Charlotte Bledsoe designed the thirteen costumes.

Performance Schedule:
April 12, 2019 at 7:30 pm
April 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm & 7:30 pm

Soland presently teaches playwriting at Maryville College where she is leading the playwrights to write short plays depicting the school’s 200th anniversary to be presented to the public April 22 and 23.
