Legacy Organization, The Carpetbag Theatre, Inc., celebrate 50th Anniversary

One of the longest running black theatre companies in the US


Now that the 50th Anniversary Celebration Series has ended, Carpetbag Theatre is celebrating its birthday by having its first gala-or as their call it, their 50th Anniversary Un-Gala. The Un-Gala will be “honoring the past, impacting the present, and creating the future”, all the while celebrating the many works of Carpetbag Theatre. Carpetbag Theatre will be honoring Executive and Artist Director of 45+ years, Linda Parris-Bailey, as she passes the torch to Jonathan “Courageous” Clark to carry Carpetbag for another 50 years in her retirement. They will also be joined by special guest performers, The War & Treaty, and DJ PrymeTime of Grand Hustle Records.

The Carpetbag Theatre, Inc. was founded in 1969 and chartered in 1970. It is a Knoxville-based professional, multi-generational ensemble company dedicated to the production of new works. They work in partnership with community artists, activists, cultural workers, storytellers, and leaders to create original, theatrical works. Its mission is to give artistic voice to the issues and dreams of people who have been silenced by racism, classism, sexism, ageism, homophobia and other forms of oppression.
