Guild of Knoxville Museum of Art presents Artists on Location 2019

The Guild of the Knoxville Museum of Art presents Artists On Location exhibition and art sale on Saturday, April 27 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. This event will provide both new and seasoned collectors the chance to acquire original paintings of some of Knoxville’s best-known sites.

Throughout the week of April 22–26, local and regional artists will capture on canvas the many varied scenes in and around Knoxville. From urban street to pastoral garden settings, the public is invited to watch artists in action as they paint en plein air at locations around town.

Artists will exhibit and sell their works at the exhibition and art sale on Saturday, April 27 at 5:30pm. The annual event is free and open to the public, and includes light refreshments and a cash bar. A portion of the proceeds of the sale will benefit the Knoxville Museum of Art.

The Master by M. Camille Day, 2019 Artists on Location Featured Artist

Painting in open air or “plein air” became popular in the mid- 19th century when artists of the French Impressionist movement sought to paint light and its changing ephemeral qualities in the atmosphere. The practice of painting on location increased with the development of transportable paint tubes and box easels.

Camille “Candy” Day is the Artists on Location 2019 featured artist. Day is from North Georgia, and is committed to capturing the people and places of Georgia and beyond. Her desire to expand her painting ability has led her to Europe and many places in America. Day enjoys painting en plein air as well as in her new studio in Ellijay, Georgia. She is continually inspired by the varied landscapes of the natural world, people, animals and common places where beauty is sometimes overlooked. Day is an honored Signature Member for Southern Appalachian Artist Guild, The Women Painters of the Southeast, and Southeastern Pastel Society. She is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America, the Pastel Society of America, the American Impressionist Society, and a founding member of the Eastern League of Professional Artists. Her work can be viewed at www.studiocamille.com.

Sponsors for this year’s event include Law’s Interiors, Crù Bistro, Nama Sushi Bar, and The Trust Company of Tennessee.

The Knoxville Museum of Art celebrates the art and artists of East Tennessee, presents new art and new ideas, serves and educates diverse audiences, and enhances Knoxville’s quality of life. The museum is located in downtown Knoxville at 1050 World’s Fair Park and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday 10 am–5 pm, and Sunday 1 pm-5 pm. Admission and parking are free.
