Sevier County lights up with millions of lights this week to kick off its annual Winterfest celebration which began November 7 and runs through January 26, 2012.
The city of Sevierville opened Winterfest with Music, Lights & Magic. Free food, local entertainment, kids' games and fireworks made this event fun for everyone. The evening wrapped up with "flipping the switch" on the area's first Winterfest lights.
Pigeon Forge Winterfest begins on Tuesday, November 8 at Patriot Park. This year's new addition is a Salute to Veterans Parade on Friday, November 11 in honor of the men and women who have served our nation through their military service.
The parade begins at 4:30 p.m. at the south end of town and will proceed north on the Parkway to Patriot Park where you'll see a display of vintage and current-day military vehicles. Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner, Many-Bears Grinder, will be a special guest for the occasion and deliver a keynote address.
Come out and enjoy live entertainment from the Pigeon Forge Community Chorus and a military band. Witness the ceremonial lighting of the Pigeon Forge Winterfest displays and more than five million lights.
Gatlinburg's Winter Magic Kick-off is Wednesday, November 9 when Gatlinburg lights the city with millions of winter lights. As part of Gatlinburg's Winterfest, Old Fashioned Hayrides are offered. Enjoy a unique hayride with family or friends downtown Gatlinburg. As winter begins in the Smoky Mountains, take this fun filled hayride and enjoy breath taking views of the beautiful mountain backdrop. Departure is at traffic light #6 at the Mountain Mall. Rides leave approximately every 45 minutes. Call 865-436-3897 for information.
