UT Men's Chorale to Host Male Choral Festival
KNOXVILLE – The University of Tennessee Men's Chorale is hosting Brothers Sing On, a male choral festival featuring performances by professional chorus Brethren and a men's mass choir, on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 4:30 p.m. at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church.
Men in high school and older are invited to perform in the mass choir. Registration and rehearsal is at 9:30 a.m.
Event organizer Gene Peterson, associate director of choral activities at UT, states "It has been my goal to offer opportunities for men to come together to sing," he said. "The rousing sound of a male chorus is exciting, and the thought and vision of hundreds of men singing together is a dream that such a event like this can realize."
The event is made possible partly because of one woman's donation in memory of her late husband. The donor, who wished to be anonymous, said her husband loved the musical expression of male singing, and she is supporting because she knew he would love something like this to happen.
The concert will feature three selections by the UT Men's Chorale and four by the mass choir before the headlining performance by Christian male ensemble Brethren.
Based in Washington, D.C., Brethren is comprised of 30 singers from all walks of life. Since the group's founding in 2006, Brethren has toured throughout the US performing at churches, conventions, corporate functions and professional sporting events. The group boasts a diverse repertoire including southern gospel, doo-wop, chamber music and patriotic selections. More information about Brethren can be found at www.brethrengroup.com.
The concert is free and begins at 4:30 p.m.
