KNOXVILLE - Young-Williams Animal Center has hired Benny Carringer as vice president of advancement and marketing and Sarah Kaplan as marketing manager.

“Benny and Sarah bring the kind of leadership and creativity that will help us expand our reach and impact,” Young-Williams Animal Center CEO Janet Testerman says. “Their dedication and compassion will play an important role in advancing our mission to ensure every pet has a home. I welcome them to our team.”

Carringer studied ministry and leadership continuing education from Trevecca Nazarene University. He previously spent more than 15 years as nonprofit executive director with the Salvation Army with experience in public engagement, donor relationships and retention, budget management, strategic planning and grant writing. Carringer also is committed to community outreach and creating meaningful impact.

A Knoxville native, Carringer enjoys cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers, exploring local restaurants with his wife of 16 years, Crystal, and spending time with their four children and rescued German Shepherd named Railton.

“I’m excited to bring my experience in development and leadership to Young-Williams Animal Center and help implement strategies that strengthen engagement and support the organization’s long-term goals,” Carringer said. “I’m also excited to work alongside Sarah as she brings a great amount of marketing expertise.”

After living around the country throughout her childhood, Kaplan moved to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee, studying women’s studies and philosophy. She previously spent five years as marketing manager for the Knoxville Museum of Art and has expertise in brand strategy and management, strategic planning, content creation and community engagement.

In her free time, Kaplan enjoys spending time at the lake with her husband, Aaron, or curling up at home with her cat, Mowgli, and a good podcast or audiobook.

“I’ve always believed in taking a hands-on approach to my work because I love being involved in every part of marketing and promotion,” Kaplan said. “Joining the Young-Williams’ team gives me the chance to stay connected with the community, share our mission with the public, and enjoy the added bonus of being surrounded by cuddly animals every day.
