Family-Owned Building Supplier Marks 100 Years of Service in Harriman & Roane County, with 40+ Years in Knoxville
KNOXVILLE - Christmas Lumber Company, a prominent, family-owned building supply company serving East Tennessee, will celebrate its 100th anniversary this Fall. Founded at 101 North Roane Street in Harriman in 1926 by James David Christmas, the local institution continues to thrive a century later. In the 1980s, the family led the expansion to Knoxville, opening a second retail center and lumber yard at 10519 Kingston Pike. To honor the remarkable milestone, the Christmas family will host a special event for employees, builders, contractors and their families at the Harriman and Knoxville locations to mark the occasion.
"A century of service is an extraordinary benchmark, but it’s also the foundation for our next chapter,” said CEO Tee Cleveland IV. “Over the past 100 years, Christmas Lumber has been built on family values, quality products and unwavering dedication to East Tennessee. Looking ahead, our commitment to quality, local craftsmanship and technology that makes it easier for customers to do business with us is stronger than ever as we build toward the future."
The company, which employs more than 100 team members across Knox and Roane Counties, remains independently family-owned and operated. Theron Cleveland III serves as the company’s president, with additional fourth-generation family members actively managing operations across both branches.
“We are proud of how far we’ve grown,” Tee continued. “Our team has helped complete major building projects across 11 states. Our success as a regional operator reflects our commitment to efficiency, from faster ordering to seamless, end-to-end material delivery.”
Originally starting as a local lumber yard, Christmas Lumber Company expanded over the decades by acquiring other area lumber suppliers and launching a dedicated truss and door manufacturing division. Today, the company supplies engineered wood, custom trusses, decking, roofing, doors and windows for residential and commercial construction across the region.
Deeply invested in the communities it serves, the Christmas family established the James David Christmas Presidential Scholarship at Roane State Community College. The family, including John Harvey Smith, also donated land for David Webb Riverfront Park in Harriman, alongside ongoing charitable support throughout Knox and Roane counties.
