Nov 1, 2025

MARYVILLE, TN –
HutsonWood, Inc. has acquired Asbury Place Maryville, a distinguished senior living community. HutsonWood is a nonprofit senior living, health, and housing organization based in Nashville, Tennessee. With this acquisition, HutsonWood broadens its footprint in its home state and marks its entry into life plan community operations.

The acquisition was finalized in October 2025, and it represents a strategic milestone for HutsonWood, which currently operates 21 communities across Illinois, Indiana, and Tennessee.

“Asbury Place Maryville is an exceptional community with a strong reputation in East Tennessee,” said Tim Buist, Chief Strategic and Implementation Officer of HutsonWood. “We are honored to welcome its residents, staff, and stakeholders into the HutsonWood family. This acquisition reflects our continued commitment to providing premier senior living options in Tennessee, and it marks the first time HutsonWood will operate a life plan community.”

Strengthening Local Roots & Expanding Services

HutsonWood’s acquisition of Asbury Place Maryville deepens its roots in Tennessee. The move further aligns with the organization’s mission to advance health and well-being through high quality senior living, healthcare, and long-term-support services.

As part of HutsonWood’s plans:

• The organization intends to invest in amenities, technology, and programming that promote wellness, engagement, and community.
• HutsonWood will assume management responsibilities, ensuring continuity and a thoughtful transition for existing residents and staff back to a nonprofit status.
• Asbury Place Maryville will continue to integrate support services, healthcare coordination, and future care options under one campus framework.

“Our philosophy has always been to deliver compassionate, resident-centered services and enriching environments,” said Douglass B. Smith, President & CEO of HutsonWood. “Acquiring Asbury Place Maryville allows us to bring those standards of excellence to the Maryville area, while also advancing our strategic goal of operating life plan communities.”

Asbury Place Maryville: A Legacy Community since 1961

Asbury Place Maryville has long served older adults in Maryville and the surrounding region, offering independent living, assisted living, and memory care services with a focus on dignity, comfort, and supportive environments. Asbury Place also maintains its relationship with The Waters of Maryville; a rehabilitation and skilled nursing center located on contiguous land to Asbury.

HutsonWood intends to uphold and build upon that legacy, engaging with residents, families, and staff to ensure that the community’s character and standards are maintained and enhanced.

HutsonWood will assume existing obligations and capital improvement commitments.
