TNMBA celebrates 60th anniversary year with ongoing, new scholarships

MEMPHIS, TN – The Tennessee Mortgage Bankers Association (TNMBA) is providing up to $10,000 in college scholarships for 2020, their 60th Anniversary year, according to Jeff Tucker, President of TNMBA.

“The TNMBA is committed to education and professional development at the college and university level, as well as for those who are already involved in the profession through our various certification programs,” said Tucker. “These scholarships are intended to support the recipients and help strengthen the future of the mortgage banking profession in Tennessee.”

The first new scholarship is for any high school graduating senior with a parent who is a member of TNMBA or any local Mortgage Banking Association in Tennessee. There are local Mortgage Banking Associations in Tri-Cities, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville and Memphis.

The other new scholarship is for a TNMBA member, who is also a member of an underrepresented population in the mortgage profession, to pursue the Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) designation, according to Tucker. “Diversity and Inclusion are much more than buzzwords for us. This is a very real way for us to provide needed support to impact diversity and inclusion in our profession,” he said.

The three ongoing scholarships are for college Junior, Senior or MBA students in a four-year accredited college/university or Master’s program in Tennessee. One scholarship is available in each Grand Division of the state.

According to Tucker, the qualifications for applicants pursuing the three ongoing scholarships include:

• Current Tennessee Residency
• Junior, senior or MBA status in a four-year accredited college/university or Master’s program in Tennessee
• Demonstrate course interest and direction related to the mortgage and financing profession (business, finance, economics, real estate, banking, etc.)
• Demonstrate a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. (Provide most recent transcript)
• Provide 3 references
• Complete the scholarship application so that it is in the hands of the TNMBA Scholarship Team for review by February 28, 2020.

The scholarship application form is available on the TNMBA website or from TNMBA President-elect Karley Bond at Karley.Bond@regions.com. She can also be reached at 731/616-5350 for questions.

“The TNMBA scholarship program continue to provide valuable support to college and university students from across the state who are interested in a career in the mortgage profession,” said Tucker. “It is a joy to be able to provide these resources at a time when the need for financial support for college education is so significant. Plans are to continue and strengthen this initiative. That allows us to help build and even stronger future for the mortgage profession here in Tennessee.”
