Two Knoxville Firms Named in "Best Small/Medium Employers in Tennessee 2010"

By Jeaneane Payne

Two Knoxville firms have been named in BusinessTN's "Best Small/Medium Employers in Tennessee 2010".

The law firm of Kramer Rayson LLP and Coulter & Justus, P.C. CPA firm were both named among the best employers in Tennessee for small to mid-sized companies.

Kramer Rayson LLP was established in 1948. The majority of the firm's work consists of representation of businesses in employment, tax and contractual matters, the representation of individuals in tax, estate, and trust matters, health law, and the defense or prosecution of civil claims. The firm handles both litigation and transactional matters. Kramer Rayson LLP has twenty-four lawyers. The firm has offices in Knoxville and Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Clients range from General Motors to the Knoxville Utilities Board to Tennessee Farmers Mutual Insurance Co.

Coulter & Justus, P.C. formerly Ernst & Young which began in the 1930's in Knoxville, is a professional services firm serving a broad range of clients and offering traditional services such as audit and tax. Additionally, it offers specialized services such as business valuations, transaction advisory, litigation support and international tax.

BusinessTN's web site states, "The CPA profession is well-known for demanding schedules, extended periods of travel and excessive hours. Work weeks of 55 or more hours are standard in 'busy season.' There is also a high level of staff burnout and turnover rates of 15 to 30% are not uncommon at CPA firms. Coulter & Justus is smartly focused on employees, work/life balance and on offering an exceptional place to work and to grow professionally. As a result, turnover rate at Coulter & Justus is a fraction of its peers."
