Atlanta: $1.5 billion in new developments

Atlanta is growing in huge ways in 2014 to increase tourism, traffic flow, shopping fluency, and upscale living. Along with a $90-million streetcar project, one of America’s largest cities has added on a College Football Hall of Fame and the world’s first museum to house an interactive experience about the American Civil Rights Movement.
If Buckhead Atlanta wasn’t already prestigious enough, come September you will be able to take in six city blocks of shopping, and restaurants and cafes. In addition, a two million-square-foot historic structure called Ponce City Market will house a central food hall, shops, office, and residences.
All this, coupled with everything else Atlanta has to offer, will make a wonderful weekend getaway.

The College Football Hall of Fame joins the world-class attractions surrounding Centennial Olympic Park in August. The massive facility is a state-of-the-art shrine for college football fans, with interactive exhibits that entertain even the non-fan visitor. Tickets carry visitor-specific data that link to various exhibits to display content about each visitor’s college football team. This hall of fame opens August 23, 2014.

CENTER FOR CIVIL AND HUMAN RIGHTS
The Center for Civil and Human Rights is the world’s first museum of its kind. Located next to the World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium, the Center’s theatrical and high-tech exhibits use motion, sights and sounds to immerse visitors in the American Civil Rights Movement. Touch screen video panels bring visitors face-to-face with human rights activists from around the world. Through interactive exhibits, historical artifacts and strong imagery, the Center serves as a catalyst for civil and human rights conversation. The Center opened Monday, June 23.
The Center is open seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving and Christmas).

$90-MILLION ATLANTA STREETCAR PROJECT
The $90-million Atlanta Streetcar project provides visitors with a convenient way to travel along Downtown Atlanta’s tourism district. The Streetcar forms a 2.7-mile loop with stops at the historic Sweet Auburn District, Georgia State University, Downtown Atlanta hotels, and Centennial Olympic Park, among others. Service will begin this summer.

Buckhead Atlanta combines the walkable, tree-lined streets of Paris with the haute shops of Rodeo Drive. This ultimate street-scene is comprised of six city blocks that fit seamlessly into the existing neighborhood, often referred to as “Beverly Hills of the East.” Buckhead Atlanta’s multitude of shops, restaurants and cafés include Spanx’s flagship store, Hermès, Jimmy Choo Christian Louboutin, Shake Shack, and many others. This new area begins opening September 4, 2014.

PONCE CITY MARKET
Ponce City Market will house a central food hall, shops, offices, and residences. The two million-square-foot historic structure is the largest adaptive reuse project in Atlanta’s history. Situated along the nationally acclaimed Atlanta BeltLine, Ponce City Market is poised to become the hub between Atlanta’s most popular neighborhoods. The development is inspired by Chelsea Market in New York City. The market opens later this year.
