University of Tennessee Ranks Below Alabama in Football Revenue

The University of Tennessee ranks below the University of Alabama in football revenue with its revenue for 2009 being $56,593,946.00. With a stadium capacity of 102,037, UT ranks lower than the University of Alabama which has a stadium capacity of 101,821 and brought in $71,884,525.00 in the same year.

UT spent less than 31% ($17,357,345.00) of its revenue on football expenses while the Univ. of Alabama spent just under 44% ($31,118,134.00).

UT enjoyed a total profit in 2009 of $39,236,601.00.

The revenue included gate receipts, broadcast revenues, appearance guarantees and options, alumni contributions, student activity fees, concessions, and advertising. Expenses included athletically related student aid, salaries, recruiting expenses, contract services, travel, equipment, operating expenses, and supplies.

Federal statute requires schools that receive the Title IV funding to report the financials for their athletic department. www2.ed.gov
