Special Event to Honor Maryville College Football Coach Bowers
Thirty high schools in East Tennessee and North Georgia will be participating in a special event that was organized in memory of Cody Bowers, a Maryville College football coach and alumnus who died tragically in the fall of 2007.
The event, 2011 East Tennessee 7 on 7 Perimeter Passing Day, will be held at Maryville College on Saturday, July 16th. Games will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude by 6:00 p.m.
Teams will be matched up into pools and each will practice their passing game for the upcoming season.
Participating schools include: Alcoa, Anderson County, Boyd-Buchanan, Campbell County, Cumberland County, Farragut, Grace Christian Academy, Greenback, Greeneville, Hardin Valley Academy, Heritage, Jackson County, Jefferson County, Knox Central, Knoxville West, Lenoir City, Livingston Academy, Maryville, McMinn County, North Murrary (GA), Sequatchie County, Seymour, Smith County, South-Doyle, Unicoi County, Upperman, Wartburg Central, White County, and William Blount.
The event has been organized in memory of Cody Bowers, a Maryville College football coach and alumnus who died tragically in the fall of 2007. The event will match teams up into pools where each will practice their passing game for the upcoming season.
Admission is $5.00 and concessions will be sold. T-Shirts will also be on sale for $10.00. Proceeds for the event will benefit the Maryville College football program.
The East Tennessee 7 on 7 Perimeter Passing Day began at Lenoir City High School in the summer of 2007. Organized by former Scots football players Nick White (1998) and Brian Gossett (2000), the event was moved to Maryville College in the summer of 2008 and dedicated to the memory of Cody Bowers. Current and former Maryville College football players and other MC alumni serve as volunteers for the event.
