TELLICO VILLAGE - The Tellico Village Pickleball Club is hosting its annual open tournament at the end of the month. This year, for the first time, the club partnered with the Special Olympics Fort Loudon Regions.

On Thursday, April 25 the Tellico Village Pickleball Club will host a special training session with Special Olympians from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Tellico Village Wellness Center. It is located at 200 Dohi Drive in Loudon. The club will provide instruction and support for a number of Special Olympians and mentors. There will also be medals and prizes for everyone. Athletes are from Loudon, Monroe and Knox County and will be learning how to play pickleball. “I think that’s just going to be a joyful event,” Tellico Village Pickleball Club Outreach Director Gordon Young, said.

Following the event for the Special Olympics is a tournament for players on April 26-28. More than 200 participants from six states are expected to compete all to raise money for the growth of the sport. In fact, funds raised will go to the Special Olympics Fort Loudon Regions and to help teach physical education and supply pickleball products to kids at Loudon County and Lenoir City Schools.

These events are open to the public.
