Summer track & field program offers four weeks of fun, fitness, finish lines

24 practice sites serving Knox, surrounding counties

The Knoxville Youth Athletics is hosting their annual summer track and field program for local East Tennessee youth.

Running from June 4th – June 29th, the Knoxville Youth Athletics Program exposes kids to the fundamentals of track and field. “Our goal for the program is to teach the basic skills most prevalent in the sport of track and field: running, jumping and throwing,” said Brent Smith, Knoxville Youth Athletics Summer Program Director. “Our program is conducted with an emphasis on fun and fitness.”

The program is open to all girls and boys between the ages of 5 and 18. Practices are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:00, at more than 24 schools in Knox and surrounding counties. The program will also offer four consecutive Saturday track meets, held June 8, 15, 22, and 29 at four locations listed on the program page. During the meet, youth from all locations will compete in events such as the 100-Meter dash, discus throw, relays and high jump.

Participants can register online, or on site at any practice location. Registration is $45 per participant (maximum of $115 per family), and includes a t-shirt. For more information, call the Knoxville Youth Athletics hotline at 865-414-3724, or visit their website.

The Knoxville Youth Athletics Program serves to help develop the sport of track and field and cross country in the local area. Knoxville Youth Athletics serves more than 10,000 youth each year to help develop the basic motor skills of running, jumping and throwing — skills that are the foundation for success in any sports or fitness activity.
