KNOXVILLE — Former University of Tennessee Head Football Coach and Volunteer Legend Phillip Fulmer hit the airwaves this week to talk college football, the SEC and University of Tennessee football.
Fulmer joins former Tennessee Defensive Coordinator Doug Mathews on “Coach to Coach,” a brand new statewide radio show debuting this week. “Coach to Coach” is presented by the Governor’s Highway Safety Program.
The two coaches, who both played collegiately in the Volunteer State, shared an office when they coached together in Knoxville.
“We developed a relationship that goes very deep – and we enjoy talking football,” Fulmer said. “This seemed like a natural way to work together again.”
The one-hour show airs on local radio stations across the state each week, usually Thursday or Friday evenings, or Saturday mornings prior to kickoff. Seeking to go beyond generalities and forced conflict, “Coach to Coach” will take football fans statewide inside the coach’s meeting room. The two coaches will discuss strategy, game planning, and dealing with on- and off-field issues.
“I want fans to walk away thinking ‘I learned something’ or ‘I never thought of it like that,’” Mathews said. “We will get heavy into the why football coaches make the decisions they do and look very closely at the players a coaching staff would need to prepare for on that week’s opponent.”
“Coach To Coach” will be hosted and produced by longtime Titans Radio Executive Producer/Gameday Host Larry Stone. Just as he did during 17 years producing award-winning Titans coverage, Stone will bring his a fast-paced, x’s and o’s approach to “Coach To Coach.”
“We can take things happening today and relate them to our years of experience,” Fulmer said.
Fans will have the chance to the two coaches a question each week during the show, via the show’s website: CoachToCoachRadio.Com.
“I’m excited to do what I love and that’s talking about University of Tennessee and SEC football,” Fulmer said. “I hope fans will love the show.”
