Lady Scots Move into NCAA Regional Rankings

Maryville College women's basketball team received their first NCAA Division III regional ranking of the season on the eve of the 2011-2012 Great South Athletic Conference tournament. Coach Travillian's Scots are presently ranked fifth in the South region with a regional record of 16-4 and an overall mark of 17-6. The NCAA record does not reflect MC's overall record of 19-6 and 15-1 in GSAC action that includes a pair of forfeits by GSAC members.

"This regional ranking means that people are taking notice of the hard work these ladies are putting in and the progress they've made throughout the season," stated the second-year mentor. "We have been getting better every day, and we are excited about competing in the post season."

The post season begins Friday when the No.1 seeded Fighting Scots take on the No.4 seeded Huntingdon College Hawks at 5:30 p.m. in LaGrange, Georgia. MC swept the Hawks in regular season action with 70-47 and 66-57 victories.

The women's basketball program is in search of their 8th and final Great South title before joining the USA South next season. The league's automatic bid will give the tournament champion a trip to the NCAA dance and Maryville has aspirations to attend their 18th NCAA event in the program's history.

This weekend's action in LaGrange can be followed by LIVE STATS livestats.prestosports.com/lagrange and LIVE AUDIO collegesportsbroadcasting.com.

The NCAA South Region Rankings for games as of February 19 are:

Louisiana College (20-2) (22-3)
Centre College (20-3) (21-3)
Virginia Wesleyan College (19-4) (20-5)
Concordia (Texas) (19-4) (20-4)
Maryville College (16-4) (17-6)
Eastern Mennonite (20-3) (21-3)
