MARYVILLE -- The Maryville College women's basketball team used a strong second half to pull away and advance to the Great South Athletic Conference championship game with a 74-40 win over Huntingdon College on Friday evening in LaGrange, Georgia.

Coach Travillian's Scots trailed 21-20 with 2:49 remaining before the half. A 7-1 run by MC before the buzzer put Maryville up 27-21 at the intermission.

The second half saw the orange and garnet finish the game out rebounding the Hawks 47-34 and out scoring Huntingdon 47-19 by holding their opponent to a 25% shooting effort. In contrast Maryville had four player post double digits in scoring while the No.1 seed deposited 50% of their shots for the game. The unselfish Scots distributed 15 assist on their 27 total baskets.

Huntingdon (16-11) did not have a player score more than eight points.

Maryville (20-6) was paced by All-GSAC standout Janell Menard. The junior finished with a game-high 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting. All-Great South guard Kiera Payne added 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting. All-Conference post player Tayler Smith deposited 10 points while leading MC on the boards with six rebounds. GSAC All-Freshman Team honoree Alex Bond went 4-for-5 from the floor to finish with 10 points.

The Scots will play for the league title at 2:00 on Saturday. They will face the tournament host LaGrange College Panthers who defeated Piedmont College 79-71 in the earlier semi-final matchup.
