Good Morning East Tennessee!

Good news in Knoxville!

The month of January brought a new year and a new decade. Obviously, many people said, "It's time to put the past behind us and move on."

I'm seeing changes in our own community, and I'm seeing and feeling the rethought of old patterns. There's a loosening of long embedded negativity. I'm seeing more smiles and hearing new plans. With it I'm seeing positive action.

Many of my friends are artists, and they're creating new art. Many are business people developing new plans and business concepts. Some are politicians leading, making changes, and rethinking old strategies. So many people are re-inspired, and it's wonderful to watch.

Before the beginning of the year retailers were reporting extraordinary Christmas sales.

Since the new year, the Smoky Mountains tourist market has increased as more people are choosing to spend their vacations in East Tennessee.

Technology stocks are booming with Apple and Google the leading the charge.

USDA gave 1.3 million to Tn schools.

If you had said in 1968 that Knoxville would one day have a black mayor, you would have been laughed at. Today, it's a reality.

New jobs were created, and unemployment dropped from 9.8% to 9.4%.

The above list is just to name a few examples. You could probably sit there and create your own list of horrible things that started your new year. Maybe you'd like to bare in mind that while ugliness is a reality - beauty is a reality too.

I'm a strong believer that if you continue to focus on positive things more positive things will come your way.

I know - everyone knows - it's not always easy, but if you try to weed through all the mud-slinging and bad news to find the good (and there's a lot of it) it will brighten your day and THAT will brighten your tomorrows. It's a promise.

Have a great day!
