Good Morning East Tennessee!

The K-town Difference --

Some of you know that I used to travel for a living and I've spent a lot of time in different communities throughout the US. Everything is relative but lately people have been catching me bragging (their words) about Knoxville TN.

I don't agree with the word "bragging." It's more about pride while highlighting the people, places and events in East TN.

Knoxville cares about and supports its elderly residents. Some people don't understand the value of that, but they will when they grow older.

Knoxville cares about and supports their youth, including the teen population. With many activities, community centers and focus on keeping our younger generation busy and out of trouble, the kids stay busy and productive.

Knoxville's veteran-support, understanding and pride in the people who volunteered, risked and gave their lives to keep us free are not taken for granted in this town and I highly doubt they ever will be.

Knoxville has a stronger-than-usual focus on preserving our historic documents, buildings, parks, art and sites. Any history buff will tell you that Knoxville keeps them busy and fascinated 24/7.

The Great Smoky Mountains are 1/2 hour away. Escaping into nature or an adventure-filled day of amusement is a stone's throw away. Over the years I've learned to utilize this to its full advantage each and every time I feel the stress-level building. This little, luxurious strategy has been successful 100% of the time.

As far as I know most of our politicians and police force are honest. Electing and hiring leaders who are qualified and honest is the number one essential ingredient for a healthy community.

Knoxville's art community is growing and changing as more politicians step into office that understand and are qualified to address this need. I am convinced that it's the key to our community's future. This is a very misunderstood issue, but take a look at any thriving community in America and you will find strong artist support.

Knoxville addresses poverty and homeless concerns. We don't all agree on the best course of action but we care about this percentage of our population and we're trying to set an example for the rest of the country. I personally take a gigantic amount of pride in this fact.

The University of Tennessee is one of the top colleges in the country and continues to push the levels of research, business, sports, science, architecture, arts, communications, health, engineering, law, veterinary medicine and more. These facts not only allow Knoxville to thrive, they affect the entire planet.

Knoxville parks and recreation areas are beautifully thought-out and maintained at a high standard.

Knoxville tends to "pull together" when there's a major crisis or disaster in the community.

I could go on and on while mentioning our schools, golf-courses, lakes, restaurants, museums, economy level, communications, big business, small business, etc. You get the gist. I'm proud to call Knoxville my home and the Knoxville Daily Sun will continue to highlight concerns, expose our heroes, and push for even greater success.

Have a great day!
