TVA celebrates Earth Day with volunteer activities in April

Earth Day, April 22, is a special day for the Tennessee Valley Authority—so special that TVA is extending the celebration with numerous events throughout the month of April, starting as early as April 6.

Volunteers are needed for river and reservoir cleanups across the Tennessee River watershed. The cleanups are especially timely this year since record rainfall in January and February created fluctuating water levels, resulting in more litter and debris than usual in many areas. For more details and to sign up, visit TVA.com/volunteer.

TVA Natural Resource employees are also offering educational opportunities at booths and displays in which the public can learn more about the nature that surrounds them.

Protecting, preserving and improving the Tennessee River system and its public lands is at the core of TVA’s stewardship mission. TVA monitors and cares for 293,000 acres of public land, 11,000 miles of shoreline and 650,000 acres of reservoir surface water.

“At TVA, this is our daily mission,” said Bucky Edmondson, TVA’s director of Natural Resources. “Earth Day is a great opportunity for the residents of the Valley to share that mission with us. Whether it’s picking up litter, helping to clean up a trail or just learning more about what we do, we invite you to join us, and we value you at Earth Day and all year round.”
