Karl Dean fundraising reaches $3.8 million

NASHVILLE, TN - The Karl Dean for Governor campaign continues to gain momentum with total raised from contributors now totaling more than $3.8 million. During the most recent fundraising period, April 1 to June 30, the campaign brought in $1.3 million including $814,876 from campaign donors. The campaign currently has $1,431,209 cash on hand available to spend.

Karl Dean’s fundraising numbers continue to show the campaign’s strong support statewide with more than 7,500 individual contributors from 91 of Tennessee’s 95 counties. Dean gained more than 2,700 new contributors between the April 1 and June 30 period alone, leading all of his opponents on the number of individual contributors.

“I am very proud of that more than 7,500 people have heard our message and liked it enough to financially support our campaign,” said Dean. “We know that across Tennessee people want a leader who will fight for the forgotten Tennessee and as governor I will be committed to doing just that.”

Karl Dean continues to far outpace his primary opponent and remains competitive with his Republican opponents because of the number of people who have put their financial support behind him.

In recent months, the campaign has grown exponentially with additions to staff in East, West and Middle Tennessee. “Get Out the Vote” director Scott Lindsey of Chattanooga is the campaign’s latest senior staff hire and the campaign continues to grow its grassroots operations.

“Although we are in an incredibly competitive position going into the August primary, our team is not taking anything for granted,” said Courtney Wheeler, Karl Dean’s campaign manager. “We are hard at work making calls and knocking door-to-door and to date have reached more than 230,000 voters and we are just getting started.” Karl Dean is a democratic candidate running for governor in 2018. Dean served two terms as the sixth mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. His administration focused on education, public safety and jobs. As mayor, he led the city of Nashville to unprecedented economic prosperity that it’s experiencing today. He kept taxes low while making significant investments in public infrastructure, paving the way for new economic development in all parts of Davidson County. Dean first held public office when he was elected as Nashville’s public defender in 1990, a role he served in for nearly a decade before becoming the city’s law director. After leaving the Mayor’s Office in September 2015, Dean began teaching at Belmont University as a distinguished visiting professor of history and political science. Dean is married to Anne Davis, a Nashville native and attorney. They have three grown children and one granddaughter.
