South College launching information technology master’s degree online


KNOXVILLE - South College will offer an online degree for a master’s in information technology, an in-demand career track that can offer excellent career potential upon graduation.

Students can enroll for the Master of Science program beginning June 29. The degree program is ideal for practitioners in the field who want to further their education and advance their career options.

A full-time student can complete the information technology (IT) degree in 12 months, and the program provides training that can lead to career positions as IT systems administrator, information security analyst, computer network architect, IT project manager, chief technology officer and IT systems engineer.

“The field of information technology is one of the fastest-growing in the country,” South College Chancellor Steve South said. “By offering a Master of Science degree program online, we are helping to meet a demand for well-educated specialists in this field and providing graduates with a dynamic career track.”

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), careers in information technology are expected to grow by up to 13 percent by 2026. Published salaries in this field range from $50,000 to $100,000-plus a year.

South College already offers an online programs Associate of Science in Network Administration & Security and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a Concentration in Information Systems Management. The coursework is taught by highly qualified faculty with academic and professional backgrounds in business and information technology.

South College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to offer programs at the doctorate, educational specialist, master’s, baccalaureate, and associate levels.
