Austin-East Magnet High School headed to Emmy Award competition


The regional Emmy Award competition will be held January 31, 2015, at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville and Knoxville’s Austin-East Magnet High School is out to win an Emmy.

In December, 2014, a film produced at Austin-East Magnet High School earned a regional Emmy® Award nomination through the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Midsouth Chapter organization. The film promotes the performing arts program at the school and is in the award category Information/Instructional Program.

The informational film was premiered in December 2013 during an Austin-East arts showcase event to promote the performing arts program at the school. It was co-written and produced by Olivia Riggins, Magnet Coordinator and Dance Teacher at Austin-East Magnet High School, and co-written and directed by Tyler Hays, local cinematographer and owner of Tyler Hays Creative.

The regional Emmy Award competition will be held January 31, 2015, at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville. The Midsouth Chapter serves North Carolina, Tennessee and northern Alabama. Other nominees in the Information/Instructional Program category include Vanderbilt University, Vanderbilt Peabody College and WZTV Fox 17 in Nashville.

Performing arts at Austin-East Magnet High School include a competitive theatre team, marching band, choir, dance company and West African Dance and Drum Ensemble.
