Borrow a tablet from the library

KNOXVILLE — Knox County Public Library has added Playaway Launchpads and Playaway Bookpacks into its circulating collection. Families can now borrow tablets pre-loaded with educational apps, games, and activities for children as well as audio players pre-loaded with recorded versions of 3-5 books, which are paired with the correlating print versions for read-along.

Tablets and players are particularly helpful for children who are visual and audio learners. They will also help children develop digital literacy skills in a safe environment as the devices are not Internet enabled. All devices are child-friendly with controls that are simple enough for young children. Patrons are responsible for replacement costs on missing items. Please see www.knoxlib.org for check-out rules.

The Library added 200 Launchpads with a variety of themes and subjects for a range of ages and 240 Bookpacks for developing readers. In 2011, the Library added Playaway Views to its collection. The pre-loaded video players have been very popular with library patrons.

"We are excited to be able to expand our resources to keep up with today's technology demands," commented Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett. "Our library system does an excellent job of ensuring Knox County citizens have access to information in a variety of formats."
