The Knoxville Sunsphere will be the location for the first Knoxville Memorial Stair Climb.

KNOXVILLE - Visit Knoxville, along with SERVPRO® of Rocky Hill, Sequoyah Hills and South Knoxville, will host the first Knoxville Memorial Stair Climb. The climb is a charity event commemorating the 343 FDNY firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11. All funds raised by this event will be donated to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to help support the surviving families. The event will take place on the morning of September 20, 2014 at the Sunsphere. Event registration starts at 7:00 am followed by the opening ceremony at 8:30 am and the climb will be from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.

Each participant in this event will climb the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center, symbolically recreating the heroic efforts of the FDNY firefighters. Firefighters, police, first responders and military are invited to take part in this event so that each of the 343 fallen FDNY firefighters can be honored.

The community is invited to come out and support these men and women as they pay tribute to the fallen. It will be a day of physical challenge and endurance as well as a solemn reflection and remembrance of first responders who lost their lives September 11, 2001 in New York City.

Visit Knoxville (Knoxville Convention and Visitors Bureau) is the official CVB for the City of Knoxville and Knox County.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is a non-profit foundation created by Congress in 1992 to honor fallen firefighters across the United States. They help honor the memory of these fallen heroes by providing resources and support for their surviving families and working within the Fire Service Community to help prevent deaths in the line of duty. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation hosts many events throughout the year including golf tournaments and stair climbs and they are currently working on building a national memorial park for fallen firefighters in Emmitsburg, MD.
