Knox Area Rescue Ministries hosting Veteran’s Day event for Homeless Veterans

KNOXVILLE — Homeless veterans in Knoxville will enjoy a special Veteran’s Day event on Veteran’s Day, November 11th, courtesy of Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM). They will be honored with a meal and a recognition service.

Dinner will be served beginning at 4:30 p.m. The veterans will be served by numerous KARM volunteers and by members of the Knox Area Rescue Ministries board of directors.

At 6:00 p.m. a patriotic service will be held in the KARM chapel. The keynote speaker will be Colonel Rick Kuhlman, USAFR (ret), Air Liaison Officer, United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. He will be assisted by C/Colonel Aaron Glenn, Cadet Commander, Det 800, AFROTC, University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Each veteran attending will participate in a special time of recognition, and will be presented with an American flag lapel pin to honor his or her military service. The Rejoice Singers will sing patriotic music and The Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard will present the colors.

“We are pleased to honor homeless veterans and their service,” says Burt Rosen, President and CEO at KARM. “Many who served still bear the scars of that service today, as demonstrated by their homelessness. It is important to share our gratitude for their sacrifice, and to continue to support them by offering opportunities for restoration.”

KARM has served those in need of food and shelter in the East Tennessee community for over 50 years. Throughout KARM’s history it has served homeless veterans from every military conflict since World War II.

KARM serves nearly 1,000 meals per day and is home to nearly 400 people each night. For more information about KARM’s ministry and services to the needy in East Tennessee please visit
