UT Farmers Market kicks off a new season on May 14

KNOXVILLE - Nothing enhances a meal more than fresh produce. Vegetables and fruits direct from the farm are the perfect complement to a summer meal. If freshness is your goal, then you can’t beat a farmers’ market.

Starting on May 14 and continuing every Wednesday through October 22, the University of Tennessee Farmers Market will sell fresh vegetables and fruits, all from local farms.

“Consumer demand for local produce continues to increase,” said Sallie Martin, manager of the UT Farmers Market. “The trend of farm to table isn’t just a fad because more and more people want to know where their food comes from. At the UT Farmers Market, they can be assured that our produce is locally grown and the freshest available.”

In addition to the generous amounts of produce on hand, you can also pick up arts and crafts items from local artisans that will complement any décor. “We want to give exposure to our wonderfully talented local artists,” said Martin. “They provide unique, one-of-a-kind art that you just can’t find anywhere else.”

The UT Farmers Market runs from 4-7 p.m., every Wednesday and is held at the UT Gardens, located on the campus of the UT Institute of Agriculture in Knoxville. Just look for the signs off of Neyland Drive and throughout the agricultural campus.

The UT Institute of Agriculture provides instruction, research and public service through the UT College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the UT College of Veterinary Medicine, UT AgResearch, including its 10 research and education centers, and UT Extension offices in every county in the state.
