Southern Fridge Sweepstakes launches July 15 with help of Tennessee Department of Tourist Development

KNOXVILLE – The Local Palate magazine and GE Appliances hope to promote Southern culinary culture by launching a consumer outreach program named the “Southern Fridge Sweepstakes.” The aim of this sweepstakes is to educate and engage consumers as to the diverse and delicious food culture of various selected Southern States. The promotion entails a national sweepstakes where the winner will receive a GE Café refrigerator entirely stocked with culinary products.

The sweepstakes itself will include a series of multiple-choice questions about culinary-related products, places, and/or events from the selected States. Upon answering these questions in their entirety, which will take just a few moments, the user earns the right to enter to win this stocked refrigerator.

“GE is thrilled to be a part of the Southern Fridge Sweepstakes,” said Dan Goldstein, Refrigeration Marketing Manager for GE Appliances. “Our three GE plants in Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee are focused every day on making the best refrigerators in the U.S.A. to keep your local produce and gourmet specialty foods fresher longer.”

The Sweepstakes will run four times over the course of the next 12 months and each iteration will focus on a selected Southern state. The Tourism Departments from Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana and Alabama are participating.

The first sweepstakes will include product from the State of Tennessee and is backed by the State of Tennessee Department of Tourist Development. This sweepstakes goes live on www.thelocalpalate.com on July 15, 2014, and will run through September 30, 2014.

The winner receives a GE Café French-Door refrigerator made in Louisville, Ky. and a variety of product local to the specific state. The estimated value of each prize is around $5,000.

The Local Palate is a nationally distributed publication with a focus on the food culture of the South. In The Local Palate, evolving trends are complemented by tradition. The Local Palate celebrates people, reveals processes, and shares a love for food and the culinary experience.
