Antiques Roadshow hitting Knoxville Convention Center in July

KNOXVILLE -- The popular "Antiques Roadshow" will make it first trip to Knoxville in July, 2013. Public Broadcasting System's highest rated series will be on hand July 13 to help you determine if your keepsake is junk or treasure.

The "Roadshow" features 70 expert appraisers specializing in 20 categories to assess guests' items. Each ticketholder must bring one item for appraisal, but can bring up to two antiques. Guests are encouraged to bring family heirlooms, yard sale bargains and items long-hidden in attics and basements to the show in hopes of turning old junk into treasure.

"This event is a huge opportunity for Knoxville to gain more national attention," said Knoxville Convention Center General Manager Mary Bogert. "We expect a large turnout from the Knoxville area, as well as the surrounding region to take advantage of the free antiques appraisals and the chance to be on national television. Knoxville has such a rich history, and I'm excited to see the value of the items the 'Antiques Roadshow' will uncover."

Tickets are free, but must be applied for online or by postcard in advance no later than Monday, April 8, 2013. Ticket recipients will be selected in a random drawing, and tickets will arrive in the mail approximately three weeks before the event date in a plain white envelope. No tickets will be available for sale at the door, and there is no buying or selling allowed at the event.

The "Roadshow" begins at 8 a.m., and guests are admitted hourly according to the time listed on the ticket stubs. Guests are asked to arrive no earlier than 30 minutes prior to the time listed on the ticket stub.

The 2013 summer event will air sometime during the 18th season of the 10-time Emmy Award-nominated show on PBS, beginning in January of 2014. About 10 million viewers tune in to watch each episode.
